Owensboro Community and Technical College (Owensboro, KY)
About Me:
I graduated from Murray State University in 2012 and began my career as a Veterinary Technician at Kentuckiana Animal Clinic, a mixed animal practice in Owensboro, KY, where I continue to work on an as-needed basis. I am the proud mother of three wonderful children: Sawyer (8 years old), Mason (6 years old), and Charlotte (4 years old). In 2017, I started my teaching journey as an adjunct faculty member, transitioning to a full-time position in 2022.
My Journey:
-
What inspired you to pursue a career in veterinary medicine?
While it may sound cliché, I have always had a deep love for animals and a desire to help people. I can't recall a time when I wanted to do anything other than work in the veterinary field.
-
How did your path evolve, and what experiences or challenges shaped who you are today?
This is one of my favorite questions! My journey has profoundly influenced my identity as an educator. My firstborn was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at age 3 and ADHD at age 5. In researching how to best support his needs, I recognized that I shared many of the same clinical signs and was later diagnosed with ADHD myself. This experience ignited my passion for supporting all learners as both a mother and an educator. I strive to create an innovative learning environment that goes beyond the basic accommodations for students with diverse learning needs.
Becoming an FVTE
- What does this recognition mean to you?
Earning the FVTE designation is a source of pride for me; it reflects my dedication and passion for Veterinary Technology Education. This recognition symbolizes my commitment to innovation, mentorship, and leadership in this field. As a Technician, I understand the importance of setting personal goals for a sense of accomplishment. Achieving this designation is an excellent goal for new educators and connects them to a thriving community of leaders, mentors, and innovative colleagues.
